Winter hair dilemmas
Answers to all of your winter hair dilemmas, from frizziness to maintaining hair growth...
The cold winter season is officially upon us and is playing havoc with our hair. From frizziness to managing hair in high winds, people are struggling with how to care for and manage their hair during the colder months.
With this in mind, Shark Beauty have analysed search volume data to reveal what hair problems people suffer with the most in the winter and how to solve your winter hair dilemmas.
During the colder, drier months of winter, it’s important to ensure we’re taking care of our hair and giving it the attention it needs during this time.
With 9.9K monthly Google searches for ‘how to grow hair quickly’, (which typically increases around January) and the rosemary oil hair growth trend continuing to skyrocket on TikTok, it’s no surprise that people are looking for ways to protect and grow their hair this winter.
Using oils is a great way to make your hair feel nourished and while it may not directly impact hair growth, it provides moisture to the scalp and a healthy scalp results in healthy hair, increasing the chances of hair growth! However you must remember to dilute any essential oils (such as rosemary oil) before applying them to your hair.
According to Timothy Schmidt, MD, a dermatologist at University of Utah Health, sleeping with or styling hair when wet can also cause hair breakage, so if you’re wanting to maintain your hair health you should always aim to make sure your hair is dry before you go to bed.
Shark’s FlexStyle allows you to style while you dry without causing any heat damage. Shark FlexStyle measures heat 1,000 times per second ensuring consistent air temperatures, gently drying with no heat damage - never exceeding 110°C or reaching heat-damaging temperatures of 150°C.
In the last month over 3,740 people have been searching per month on Google for how to combat ‘hair going frizzy due to cold weather’. Frizziness can be caused by many different factors, however in the winter it can be due to the lack of humidity in the cold air, which can dry out your hair, making it weak and brittle.
One way to combat frizziness is to avoid overwashing and use conditioners and masks in order to tame the frizz. Equally, switching from your usual brush to a boar bristle brush can work wonders as boar bristle brushes are rich in keratin which helps improve the elasticity of hair while smoothing and nourishing your strands.
Another alternative is investing in the Shark FlexStyle - providing more smoothness and shine as well as causing less frizz and flyaways* (*vs air drying), it is perfect for combating one of winter’s most problematic hair issues.
There is nothing worse than spending hours curling your hair and it falling out as soon as you head outside. With searches for ‘why does wind ruin my hair’ skyrocketing by 100% in the last month, compared to the previous month, it is one of the most common hair dilemmas during the colder months.
If the wind is ruining your hair, @bekah_and_co has the perfect royal-approved hair hack. @bekah_and_co recently went viral on TikTok, receiving over 1.8 million views after she revealed the secret to Kate Middleton’s windproof curls.

The US hairdresser said: “She uses tons of hairspray to keep her hair in place, to keep her bangs in place. If you want bangs and you are living in a windy city or a humid city, you have to use product in order to keep them still.”
Taking into account the most common winter hair concerns, we’ve built the ultimate winter hair routine.
- Use a hair mask weekly (but don’t overdo it!) - give your hair and particularly your dry ends some more love and attention during the colder months and reach for a hair mask at least once per week before washing your hair
- Shampoo and condition your hair - opt for a quality product to help the hair feel nourished
- Protect and style - use a heat protector and or detangling spray before styling your hair. When using heat, the Shark FlexStyle measures heat 1000 times per second ensuring consistent air temperatures
- Set and go! - Once styled using your choice of attachment, use the cool setting to hold your look in place. Finish using the Kate Middleton ‘wind hair hack’ and apply a generous amount of hairspray for weather-proof curls!
From taming flyaways and frizz, to helping maintain hair health and avoid heat damage, this winter’s hair saviour is now on sale! The Shark FlexStyle is perfect for allowing you to ensure your hair is winter-ready and weather-proof at all times.
